San Francisco got its sexy back. The drag “Sex and the City” has returned and in a new venue, SF Oasis.
The drag version of the popular HBO show, that was even enjoyed by the show’s creator Darren Star when he came to see it last year, has made some changes along the way in addition to the new venue.
Drag superstar Heklina will not be playing Carrie this time around. Heklina is still behind the show as she is now one of the owners of Oasis where the show will play through March 28. “I just have too much on my plate at this time,” explains Heklina, who will likely provide some of the loudest laughs as she mills about the venue’s
But according to D’Arcy Drollinger, who makes quite the beautiful and funny Samantha (and is the show’s director as well as Heklina’s business partner), Sue Casa’s spin on the lead role of Carrie is ‘hilarious!’ and she is certainly a welcome addition to the cast.
Drollinger says she’s never worked with Sue Casa before but ‘she is smart and funny and brings so much to the part.’
With Heklina and Drollinger opening up their arms and venue to this new addition, we can only assume that their casa is Sue’s casa.
Lady Bear will be bringing back her droll self in the part of Miranda, often giving the show’s best lines and doing so with perfect comedic timing.
Another seemingly new addition to the cast is Steven LeMay, who almost stole the show in Drollinger’s last production “Shit & Champagne.” LeMay actually will be new on the stage in the show, but, according to Drollinger, he understudied all of the roles last year ‘so this will be old hat.’
The episodes being spoofed this time around include the fourth season opener, “The Agony and the Ex-tacy,” in which Carrie
tries to celebrate her 35th birthday amidst a lot of drama between the women. The second episode, also from season four, is “The Good Fight” which centers around Carrie and Aidan having a fight and in the meantime Samantha is giving blow jobs in offices, while Miranda is horny and pregnant and trying to have as much sex as possible while she still can.
You can enjoy ‘Sex’ at the Oasis in so many ways. You can get a general admission ticket for $25 or if you have three pals, you can get a Cosmo table, which puts you in the front row and you and your friends each get a Grey Goose Cosmopolitan. If you’re bringing Mr. Big, you might enjoy the Samantha table. A hard to come by spot in which you are front row and center with your three friends, sipping Vueve Clicquot with four champagne flutes. This is also followed by a meet & greet with the cast.
The show is leaving in a few weeks, so get your tickets now. Don’t worry though, Drollinger says new episodes will be back this summer.
