2010 is almost 1 month old, the celebrations are over, the New Year’s resolutions have been implemented, or forgotten and most of us are now forecasting the remaining 11 months that lie ahead. Necessary tools are what we need to tackle the insurmountable and why not with some top fashion, beauty and hair trends by some of the leading experts in those arenas to steer us in the progressive direction.
BEAUTY TRENDS FOR 2010 BY MAKEUP ARTIST: EDWARD CRUZ
- MAC COSMETICS Tinted Moisturizer effortlessly evens out skin tones.
- Use SELECT MOISTURECOVER concealer just on the areas that need that extra coverage. It’s smooth and blendable and if used sparingly, is unclockable!
- For the healthy and flirty spring cheek, use MAC COSMETICS Springsheen Blush, a golden peach.
- For a beautiful bright lip, use MAC COSMETICS Vegas Volt Lipstick, a full powered coral, over a lip balm. Using this amplified creme lipstick on top of the lip balm will sheer it out and make the lips look like you’ve just bitten into a beautiful ripe tropical fruit!
For Men: Clean and healthy skin with emphasis on protecting the lips!
- CARMEX ORIGINAL SITCK Classic, effective and insanely inexpensive. Kills germs, protects from sun with SPF15, and sheds dry skin. The menthol will plump up and give your lips an even color that men and women love. Trust me on this one. It is a MUST HAVE for men and women.
HAIR TRENDS FOR 2010 BY HAIR STYLIST:
MARCO MARANDOLA
- For Women: Long layered haircuts. Bobs are out for now. Lots of natural texture styles. Soft single braids around the front hairline.
- For Men: Short buzzed hair and scruffy faces are in or high and tight on the sides and longer on the top.

When it comes to fashion in 2010 both Stylist Carlton Jones and Fashion Director Durand Guion both inform us there will be an emphasis on Outerwear. The direction is headed away from the ’80’s exaggerations and a move towards military and Glam/Punk looks of the ’70’s and the grungier looks of the early ’90’s. Former runway model and founder of CatWalk Pros, Sandra Ward emphasizes earthy colors with the simplicity of tailored lines. Finally, we check in with fashion designer Jacinto Onofre who gives us some bright and casual options from his new line to spruce up our Spring and Summer.

- Drop waist/crotch pants ranging from harem styles to those influenced by the sagging pants of ‘urban youth’.
- Fresh new prints to look out for this Spring
- Boots as always will be appropriate and strong statements. Riding boots in particular have a strong presence now and moving forward.

Thank you to all the progressive innovators who contributed to this article! I’ll leave you with some wise words from Sandra Ward: “Fashion is a form of free speech; it’s a form of nonverbal communication. What we wear and how and when we wear it, provides others with a shorthand to subtly read the surface of a social situation.”
Be progressively fashionable and on the pulse in 2010!
