“8” Gives Audiences a Front Row Seat to the Federal Constituionality of Propostion 8.

On September 19th a stage reading of the new play, “8″ written by Dustin Lance Black and directed by Joe Mantello brought to life last year’s federal court hearings where two couples, Sandy Stier & Kristin Perry and Jeff Zarrillo & Paul Katami, filed suit against Proposition 8 in the Federal Court. Representing them were Ted Olson and David Boies (Bush v. Gore). The twelve day testimony was going to be broadcast, but opponents of marriage equality filed an emergency appeal to the Supreme Court of the United States, which blocked plans to broadcast the proceedings. Black is a founding member of AFER (The American Foundation For Equal Rights) which also includes Bruce Cohen, Chad H. Griffin, Jonathan D. Lewis, Kenneth B. Mehlman, Michele Reiner, Rob Reiner and Adam Umhoefer. The play will be licensed in universities and theaters across the country thanks to Broadway Impact with it’s first at the University of Michigan on November 19th.

Now the important stage reading makes it’s way to the L.A. stage on March 3rd at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre. Rob Reiner will direct and the play will feature George Clooney and Martin Sheen. Matt Bomer will once again grace the stage as well. Follow “8” the Play on Facebook: www.facebook.com/8theplay
