Ladies and Gentlemen we are about to enter a scene from the acclaimed movie “Eyes Wide Shut” which was a film in 1999, directed and written by the famous by Stanley Kubrick starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. This was a steamy, suspenseful movie that focused on the detail and symbolism of an entire dimension of sexual temptation and seduction– one that cannot be seen by those who have their eyes wide shut. This was the inspiration of Angel Sanchez show “Dark Innocence” for his 2014 Fall/Winter showcase. Photographers, press, celebrities, socialites and of course the fashionistas, including myself wasn’t prepared for the experience of Dark Innocence and the seductive woman. My legs clutched together as I imagined myself in one of those outfits lurking around town for my own “Eyes Wide Shut” movie.
The room was murky yet cozy, and the announcement of an eye-catching line gave birth to the name “Dark Innocence.” With hairstyles of the classic 60’s ponytail tapered under, brought the elegance to each piece as it was showcased on the models body. Sanchez’ collection was a masterpiece of minimalism displaying sleek, aerodynamically sexy lines that clenched the models body while hypnotizing the viewer’s eyes. With the display of various black, metallic colors and leather with combinations of laminated fabrics spoke volumes to the theme of darkness of “Dark Innocence.” The simplicity of the collection brought the thoughts of seduction to the viewer’s minds.
The fabrics of sheer, leather, mink and the sequence embroidery and the winter white heightened the aptitude of the collection as the show closed with pure elegance of a flawless vibrant blue gown that brought applause to the line showcased. The sleeves were either short or draped over the shoulders created a peekaboo reaction to one’s mind. As the French say, the show was “magnifique.”
After seeing this show, I knew that we all have this sense of the alter ego that is ready to be released.
