Legendary gay icon, Deborah Cox, “Nobody’s Supposed to be Here”, performed last night to some of her core fans on the Atlantis Caribbean cruise. The singer, who is widely known in the gay community, is also known for her Broadway performances in “Jekyll and Hyde” and “Aida”. On top of that she released a critically acclaimed big band jazz album a few years back, “Destination Moon”, which proved the woman has a wide pooling of talents. That being said, Cox is about to release, “Work of Art”, a brand new album that she told a packed Atlantis Cruise she has been working on for quite some time, but can’t wait to release. She performed her brand new single, “Kinda Miss You”, which dropped yesterday, produced by the Young Rascals. The soulful upbeat track has plenty of dance rhythms, and according to Cox if reflects where the artist is at right now in her life. The gorgeous singer was in great spirit acknowledging her long standing relationship with the gays and particularly on the Atlantis cruises. Cox is celebrating 20 years in the business and seems in rare form.
Recently Cox had the pleasure of singing several tracks on the Whitney Houston Lifetime movie that was directed by Angela Bassett. The singer seemed to summon Houston’s vocal ability in infamous songs like, “I Will Always Love You”. For the Atlantis cruise Cox paid tribute to Houston, and Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Christina who is fighting for her life on life support. The emotional moment was followed by the singer performing three stellar Houston singles, “Where Do Broken Hearts Go”, “Run To You”, and “I’m Every Woman”. The latter Chaka Khan song brought the audience up to their feet while waving their hands in the air. Deborah seemed to enjoy her time with the gays making several visits through the audience, taking selfies and patting several audience members on the shoulders. To end her fabulous diva performance, Deborah came back on stage to sing a classic track, “Absolutely Not” which had everybody on their feet singing the song back to Cox.
Look out for “Work of Art”, but for now you can download Cox’s new single, “Kinda Miss You” on iTunes:
