Don’t Miss a fusion of Leather with Japanese Culture at the Thomas Erben Gallery which is On View Until this Saturday, February 22nd, 2014 in NYC

DSC01196Last season we were mesmerized by the Leather Japan presentation at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week which featured primarily leather fashion and accessories,  with the electric sounds of Turtle Island. The fusion of fashion, accessories and music were a welcome diversion from the traditional presentations of most fashion shows. This season for Fall 2014, the Japan Leather Goods Development Committee opted for a more expansive and lengthier gallery exhibit at the Thomas Erben Gallery. In addition to leather jackets, shoes and accessories, the gallery allowed for a broader range of leather goods to present by Japanese artists.

For this special exhibition, 9 fashion designers from Japan and new contemporary artists from Japan and abroad have created original pieces using Japanese Leather. The exhibition is a valuable chance to experience the long-accumulated, historic flow of the culture of leather within the Japanese cultural climate, from the Edo Period to the modern day.
