Musical of gay boxer actually takes place in a gym by Kevin M. Thomas

You can’t get more progressive than this – a musical about a gay boxer set to Queen songs and staged in a real gym.

But this is truly happening in both San Francisco and Los Angeles. “Killer Queen: The Story of Paco The Pink Pounder” opens April 28 at Michael The Boxer Gym and Barbershop. We sat down with several of the people behind the show  and had a great time.

Peter Griggs who created the role of Paco and plays the part is a really sweet man and he told us about how he put the show together.  We talked to him a bit as he warmed up in the ring and wondered how they’re going to get a piano in the gym and will we see more of Griggs’ sexy legs.

Once done with Griggs, we meet director Wolfy. That’s not quite his real name – he’s not Madonna or Cher after all – but check out our interview to hear his real (long) name and agree with us – it certainly sounds like a name for someone in drag (and he swears its his real name).

And the testosterone really hit a peak when we met Michael The Boxer who is also the Barber. Michael is such a fun character himself. While he’s tough and can easily kick my ass, he showed us a softer side in our interview. Check him out.

“Killer Queen” plays in San Francisco April 28-May 8 and then at Empowerment Center Boxing Gym in Los Angeles May 20-June 5, 2011.
