An inside look at the infamous $27 billion Amazon Chernobyl case, CRUDE is a real-life high stakes legal drama set against a backdrop of the environmental movement, global politics, celebrity activism, human rights advocacy, the media, multinational corporate power, and rapidly-disappearing indigenous cultures.

Presenting a complex situation from multiple viewpoints, the film subverts the conventions of advocacy filmmaking as it examines a complicated situation from all angles while bringing an important story of environmental peril and human suffering into focus.

REVENGE OF THE SPELLMANS

San Francisco-based novelist Lisa Lutz was recently in New York to promote her latest book "Revenge of the Spellmans," the third in a series of hilarious novels about a family of private investigators.

Progressive Pulse's Jim Halterman sat down with Lutz at the McNally Jackson bookstore in Soho to talk about the origins of the books, how long the series will be going on and her writing process.

Passionate Uprisings: Iran's Sexual Revolution

Author, Journalist and Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Pomona College, Pardis Mahdavi, writes a firsthand look at the Iranian sexual revolution through her visits to Iran from 2000 - 2007. Mahdavi shares the real life stories of her informants and personal experiences all of which make up the majority of Iran's population that is 70% under the age of 30.

Though the majority are highly educated, they exist under a backdrop of unemployment allowing tremendous amounts of free time for underground parties, self expression and sexual encounters. Mahdavi's has written a fascinating and current depiction of post-revolutionary Iran amidst a sexual revolution that is shifting the country both politically and socially.

Noah's Arc: Jumping the Broom was recently released to record numbers that prompted LOGO to quickly distribute the film to more theaters. The film, which is based on the LOGO television show, Noah's Arc, picks up 2 years later and centers around the wedding of Noah and Wade.
