JESSY J FINDS TRUE LOVE ON SOPHOMORE ALBUM!

Jessy J is back with TRUE LOVE on her sexy, evolving sophomore album. The singer and saxophonist has assembled a beautiful collection of latin tinged jazz gems with the help of producer and artist Paul Brown.  The first single, “Tropical Rain” is already all over radio and is the opening track to TRUE LOVE and has Cha-cha-cha written all over it.  Jessy admits that she found her true love in music and it shows with each track standing out as its own.

Jessy explores deeper into her vocal talents on TRUE LOVE with the standout track, “Morning of the Carnival” from the 1990 film Black Orpheus. Jessy’s dance Latin version gives greater depth to the project and shows her affinity for eclectic sounds other than jazz. Her angelic voice singing in Portuguese is fused with the richness of her saxophone as well as interspersed phrasing throughout the song in English. “Llegaste Tu” has the artist singing in Spanish which could easily be heard on Spanish radio. The percussion and chorus vocals of Paulina Aguirre & Kenny O’Brien combined with the infectious Latin drum beats and acoustic guitar  by Paul Brown make this no ordinary love song. “Baila!” closes TRUE LOVE with an entire chorus singing the refrain, “baila, baila, baila!” fused with a samba rhythm featuring Keys and Strings by Greg Karukas, Drums by Sergio Gonzalez, Guitar by Paul Brown, Percussion by Richie Gajate Garcia and of course Jessy’s Tenor Sax and flute weaving in and out of the track adding some brass for the perfect Latin jazz closing! Jessy hands the vocals over to Sergio Aranda on the beautiful arrangement of, “Brazilian Dance”. The song features the fusing of Jessy’s sax with Aranda’s Brazilian vocal riffs. Together the two create a sultry and languid stream of rhythms that is stripped of production allowing two artists to freely play off one another.

With jazz and smooth jazz changing every week and music moving toward a fusion of sounds, Jessy seems to be aware, offering jazz infused songs with a twist. When I had the chance to speak with Jessy during her first album, “Tequila Moon”, she spoke of her love of not only jazz and classical but, R&B, Latin and Hip Hop. It’s apparent on “Forever” which showcases an underlying R&B rhythm with a sexy saxophone hook. The title track, “True Love”  was arranged by Jessy herself and “Mr. Prince” (co-produced with Paul Brown) both showcase the richness of Jessy playing tenor sax featuring a well rounded Latin jazz ensemble.

As stated before, it’s no surprise that the music industry is dramatically changing in front of our eyes and now more than ever, artists need to produce solid material from beginning to end of an album as it’s no guarantee that consumers will purchase an entire album. Jessy J’s TRUE LOVE showcases an artist who truly loves music and has assembled a beautiful collection of songs that deserve to be heard as a complete set.
